Press Release
Members of Fire Dist. 7, Local # 2876 and
KCFD 7 Volunteer Association joined forces to make a $1,000 donation to Brianna
Howarth.
Brianna is a 3 1/2 year old Olalla resident currently going through
cancer treatments at the Children’s Hospital.
Lt. Mike Smith, president of the KCFD 7
Volunteer Association, got the ball rolling when he found out about Brianna and
informed the rest of the volunteer organization of the situation. When Lt Mark Yergeau
of Local # 2876 was brought up to speed on the need, he agreed. “It is simply the right thing to do. This is how we want to give back to our
community,” replied Mark.
The $1,000 was raised when the two groups
put their time and energy into conducting the Olalla Easter Breakfast at fire
station 12 on the corner of Mullenix and
Many Olalla families stop by to talk
memories and have a pancake, ham, and eggs breakfast cooked up and served by
various department members. Among the over
a dozen District 7 helpful hands; KCFD 7 Volunteer Association Vice President, firefighter
Dan Cryder, and Local Union # 2876 firefighter member,
Mike Eslava, manned the grills throughout the day. Even Fire Commissioner Darla Hartley and family
members attended; showing support by serving those who stopped to dine.
Meal plates of $5.00 for adults and $4.00
for children cover the cost of the event and a means to benefit the community. All proceeds from this annual event are in
turn given back to the Olalla Community.
This year, once the business portion of the function was finalized, a
check comprised of equal contribution from each organization was deposited into
Brianna’s cancer fund. Anyone who wishes
to make an additional contribution can do so through Bank of America where an account
has been set up for Brianna.
