December 2006 was our first Breakfast with Santa event; held at station 8. Members Mike and Debi Smith created this event
to supplement the Association funds for the various community activities we are involved in. Largely due to the
helpful members of our community, this event was a huge success from the very beginning. In its first year, it raised
enough money to accommodate our budget needs and provide a boost to the Sidney Glen Family Sponsorship (see more below).
We would like to express our gratitude to Supreme Bean coffee for donating the coffee, and Farmer Georges for providing the
breakfast meat.
Please join us on Saturday, Dec 3rd from 8am to noon at station 8 for our 2011 event.

Easter Breakfast at the Olalla fire station (#12) has been a tradition for over four decades now.
Starting in 2002, members of SKFR, volunteers and career alike, took it upon themselves to take over and continue this
tradition. We used a little ingenuity to make the breakfast more efficient for our more fast paced lives.
The Olalla community is loyal to this day. Their willingness
to come out before/after church and have their Easter Breakfast with us is a generous thing.
Each year,
all the proceeds are donated to some local child in need. Please click on the link below to find out
more about the Easter Breakfast and where the proceeds have gone.
We (SKFR Volunteer Association and the SK Professional Firefighters Local #2876)
would like to express our gratitude to Supreme Bean coffee for donating the coffee,
and Farmer Georges for providing the ham/sausage.
~~~2011 Olalla Easter Breakfast~~~
Every October since 2004, members of SKFR, volunteers and career alike, get together at station 8
to serve spaghetti to the hundreds of people each year interested in a good italian meal.
Members, Mike and Debi Smith, created this event to benefit local youth sports activities. Because of the
willingness of our community members to come out and share a meal and their time with us, this event has become an
anticipated event with positive results (see more on sponsorships below).
We (SKFR Volunteer Association and the SK Professional Firefighters Local #2876)
would like to express our gratitude to Supreme Bean coffee for donating the coffee,
Morning Side Bakery for donating the bread,
and Farmer Georges for providing the meat for the sauce.
We are proud to have a renewing program to provide regular annual sponsorships for local
youth sports through the Fire House Spaghetti Feed. Pictured above are examples of how funds were spent in
2007. The little league, based in Manchester, was in need of a storage facility for their equipment.
Funding was provided to help construct a shed. In the other photo, you see new bleachers provided to the
SK tennis team.
In 2008, the Diamond Dusters team received our sponsorship. Not to forget the Puget
Sound Swim Club (Viewed in "More sponsorships" below).
The history of sponsoring local youth sports spans many years. Click the link below to find out more.
Over the 2003 Christmas Holiday, the
SKFR Volunteer Association got word of some families with in the Sidney Glen Elementary School
who were at a time of special need. Lead by member Dan Cryder, the association responded by
voting to donate all of the proceeds from the Santa Runs to help make a
difference. The Santa Run donations were supplemented by the Association to sponsor 2 families that year.
We are grateful to the Sidney Glen Elementary School staff for
organizing the Holiday Giving Tree and lining us up to assist local
families in need during the Christmas season. We have continued to sponsor Sidney Glen families annually ever since.
In addition, the Breakfast with Santa event at station 8 was created to increase our ability to
contribute to this sponsorship.
Some of the kids who got the apple.
Volunteer Firefighters of South Kitsap Fire and Rescue
contribute to the fund raising efforts of SK Park by running the apple bob and
handing out candy to the successful bobbers while they wait in line for the
Train ride.
Volunteer Lt. Ross has kept this activity strong since it began in 1994.
Members of SKFR Volunteer Association contribute to the
Halloween Party at Givens Community Center on of course; Halloween night. We run
the apple bobbing area. It is another opportunity to meet a
lot of the community members and have a good time in the process.
The Association's primary fund raiser for the 2003 and 2005 Relay for Life effort was
a Rummage Sale in May, at the Kitsap Bank on Mile Hill between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Special thanks to Port Orchard Self Storage at the corner of Jackson & Lund Ave and
Kitsap Bank for helping to make our most resent Rummage sale possible.
Their contributions of a place to store and then sell our donated rummage sale items was very generous.
Each rummage sale went very well. It was visited by many members of the community.
Because of the sales and other funds raised, the Volunteer Association was able to make significant
donations to the American Cancer Society through the Relay for Life.
The Association would like to thank all of those who helped make this a success.
During the last weekend in September, 2003. Association President Mike and Vice President
Dan built a new deck for a disabled member of the community with the help of Joan from
St. Vincent. The old deck, which was the main access to the home, was rotting and unsafe.
St. Vincent learned of the situation and provided the materials.
Joan from St. Vincent, as well as other community service minded individuals provided
additional helping hands. Mike and Dan from the association provided the skilled labor.
An excellent team affort gone good.
Cereal Drive Sponsored by Vincent de Paul
July 2004, Association member Chuck Kuhn took a grocery cart full of cereal to Tina Jeu of St.
Vincent de Paul. Tina heads the annual Cereal Drive, now in its 4th year. Her
program provides breakfast for approximately 300 children during the summer
months when they are unable to get breakfast through the school program. We
were pleased to help them help others.
Food donations from Santa Runs
We discovered that the Santa Runs are a popular avenue for citizen to make donations. We are happy
to collect the multiple donations presented to us during the Santa Runs. The financial donations are put
towards the family sponsorships (See Sidney Glen family outreach.). The food is given to the SK Helpline. Over 1,000 lbs were donated between
2000 & 2005.
135 lbs was donated in 2006.
McTakeover Events
From time to time over the years you see SKFR Volunteers conducting
a Mc Takeover in Port Orchard. These events have benefited a variety of community activities
such as local youth sport sponsorships and assist the high school age Explorers competitions.
A "Thank You" to McDonalds
of Port Orchard for allowing us to raise funds, and to all those who helped with the
fund raising.
Letting people know what we were up to.
Relay for Life
SKFR's Local #2876 Firefighters Union are a consistant participant in the
Port Orchard Relay for Life. Due to our active schedule, the Volunteers are not consistant with
every year. However, when we are able, we also show are support for the American Cancer Society,
and those we know effected by cancer.
SKFR Volunteer Association has a long history with SK Park and the Triangle park in Olalla.
Starting in 2002, SKFRVA has done a trail grooming every June in preparation for the HotFoot 5K.
(See the link below for more information on SK park work.)
We also donated the new sign post, seen on Jackson and Lund, in 2006 to better identify the park.
Pictured are the work crews for the Triangle Park in Olalla for the years 2005 (organized by
FF Cryder) and 2006 (organized by FF Hollis). SKFRVA members clean the Triangle Park annually
in preparation for the Easter Egg Hunt at the Olalla Elementry.
